Reading:  This week was Gingerbread Week.    We read many books about our new friend the Gingerbread Man, who mysteriously ran away from our classroom.  We read the books The Gingerbread Man, The Gingerbread Pirates, The Gingerbread Cowboy, The Gingerbread Baby, The Gingerbread Girl, and The Gingerbread Man is Loose in the School to try and find clues of where our new friend went.  The Gingerbread Man also left us clues to where he might be.  We even made Gingerbread friends in hopes that he returns.  Along with reading those books and gingerbread activities we did many other fun holiday activities.  We read stories about the Gingerbread Man’s friends, Pete the Cat, Olive The Other Reindeer, and Clifford’s Christmas.  The students created their own Rudolph bag and we put Reindeer food inside to prepare for the upcoming holidays.

Popcorn Words:  This week we cut out the popcorn words go and so and glued our words in our popcorn word ring.  We are going to keep our popcorn word rings in the front sleeve of our green folder so we can practice our words at school and at home.
Handwriting:  We continued writing in our journals and we also wrote “If I were a Reindeer…..”
Math: We continued counting to 100 by ones and tens.  We continued our addition unit. Our center activities have a holiday theme.

Jolly Phonics This week we learned the letters n, c, and k.  For the letter n we pretend we are flying a plane.  To make the sound of the letters c and k we pretend we are playing the castanets. We know the sounds of the letters: s, a, t, p, n, c, k and I.  We like to sing songs and do actions for each sound to help us remember them.   Remember to review the sounds we have learned in the letter and sound packet, which shows all the motions and sounds used to make each letter of the alphabet that we will learn this year.  It is for your reference so you can practice with your children as we learn each new letter and the sound of that letter
Reading:  We read Friends at School.  We did many activities that centered on the story.  We talked about things we do at school and the friends that we have made at school.  We learned the definitions of enjoy, gooey, scrumptious, and container.  We also read Pete The Cat I Love My White Shoes and Pete The Cat And His Rocking Shoes.
Popcorn Words:  This week we cut out the popcorn words in and see and glued our words in our popcorn word ring.  Our indexes will be going home in a few weeks, once the children learn a few more of our sight words to put in our popcorn rings.  We are going to keep our popcorn word rings in the front sleeve of our green folder so we can practice our words at school and at home.  Our popcorn word ring is going home this week.  We worked on sight word make a match activities.
Writing:  We started writing in our new writing journals.  We glued in our journals the sentence “I see _____ in my class.”  We had to write the name of one of our kindergarten friends to complete the sentence and then had to create an illustration to go with our sentence.
Math: We started talking about the terms more, fewer, and the same.  We talked about 1 and 2 more.
Social Studies:  Our Weekly Reader focused on Apples.
Art:  We made a Pete The Cat project that will be on display in our hallway.
