Jolly Phonics:  We have completed all our jolly phonics sounds. Now we know the sounds of the letters and letter combinations: s, a, t, i, p, n, c, k, e, r, h, m, d, g, o, u, l, f, b, j, oa, ie, ee, or,oo, ch, sh, ng, th, ou, qu, ue, oi, er, ar, z, w, v, y, and z.  We like to sing songs and do actions for each sound to help us remember them.  Remember to review the sounds we have learned in the letter and sound packet, which shows all the motions and sounds used to make each letter of the alphabet that we have learned this year. It is for your reference so you can practice with your children each letter and the sound of that letter.
Reading:  This week we read the book Bears Loose Tooth.  We learned the vocabulary words: savored, frowned, welled, gulped, and nibbled.  We also watched The Berenstain Bears Go to the Dentist.
Word Family’s:  We worked on the en word family this week.  First we started with the word ending en and then we add different letters to the beginning of the word ending en to make new words.  For example, for the en word family we formed the words (Ben, men, pen, etc.)
Popcorn Words:  This week we learned the words four, five, and said.  We are going to keep sight word rings in the front sleeve of our green folder so we can practice our words at school and at home.  Please practice the popcorn words with your child at home.
Math: We continued counting to 100 by ones and tens.  We continued working with capacity.  We also worked with number bonds.
Writing:  We wrote in our journals and we wrote “How to” stories.  Each day we write the students are becoming more confident in their writing skills and are more eager to share their experiences, thoughts and ideas. The students then had a chance to share their work with their classmates.
Social Studies: Our Weekly Reader focused on George Washington and Abraham Lincoln since this past Monday was President’s Day!
Art:  In class we made a Teddy Bear project that tied into our story for the week.  Bear’s Loose Tooth!
