Our Maps!







Focus on Curriculum     

September 30, 2016

Jolly Phonics:  This week we learned the letters r and m.  For the letter r we pretend we are Rags the dog and say r,r,r,r.  To make the sound of the letter m we pretend we are hungry and see a yummy meal and we say m,m,m,m,m. We know the sounds of the letters: s, a, t, p, n, c, k, I e, h, r and m.  We like to sing songs and do actions for each sound to help us remember them.   Remember to review the sounds we have learned in the letter and sound packet, which shows all the motions and sounds used to make each letter of the alphabet that we will learn this year.  It is for your reference so you can practice with your children as we learn each new letter and the sound of that letter.
Reading:  We read Me On The Map.  We did many activities that centered on the story.  We learned what a map, town, state and country is. 
Sight Words:  We added the words like and up to our word bags.  We are keeping our rainbow word bags in the front sleeve of our green folder so we can practice our words at school and at home. 
Handwriting: We wrote in our journals “ This is a map of my room.”  Focusing on our sight words a and my and connecting that to our Me On The Map book.
Math: We talked about reading, writing, and forming the numbers 6 and 7.
Art:  We made a flip book that included our world, continent, country, state, town, and school.

School Shoes!

September 23, 2016

Jolly Phonics: This week we learned the sound of the letters e and h.  For the letter e we pretend we are breaking eggs.  To make the sound of the letter h we pretend we just finished running and are out of breath and we say h,h,h,h,h.. We know the sounds of the letters: s, a, t, p, n, c, k, i, e, and h. We like to sing songs and do actions for each sound to help us remember them.   Remember to review the sounds we have learned in the letter and sound packet, which shows all the motions and sounds used to make each letter of the alphabet that we will learn this year.  It is for your reference so you can practice with your children as we learn each new letter and the sound of that letter.
Reading:  We read Pete the Cat Rocking in my School Shoes.  We did many activities that centered on the story.  We also read many other Pete the Cat books. 
Sight Words:  This week we added the words my and big to our word rings.  We read our very own small book titled Bedtime that focused on our new sight word my.  Please review your sight words nightly.
Handwriting: We worked in our handwriting books focusing on the letters L and I both upper and lower case letters.  We wrote in our own Pete the Cat small books.
Math: We talked about greater than, less than, and equal to.
Art:  We made a Pete the Cat project showing him rocking in his shoes!

Letters!

September 16, 2016


Jolly Phonics This week we learned the letters n, c, and k.  For the letter n we pretend we are flying a plane.  To make the sound of the letters c and k we pretend we are playing the castanets. We know the sounds of the letters: s, a, t, p, n, c, k and I.  We like to sing songs and do actions for each sound to help us remember them.   Remember to review the sounds we have learned in the letter and sound packet, which shows all the motions and sounds used to make each letter of the alphabet that we will learn this year.  It is for your reference so you can practice with your children as we learn each new letter and the sound of that letter.
Reading:  We read the book Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom.  We did many activities that centered on the story, including making a rhyming headband with words that rhyme with tree. 
Sight Words:  This week we learned the sight words in and see.  We worked on sight word make-a-match activities.  Our word rings are going home today.  Please remember to bring your ring to school every day in the front sleeve of your green folder.
Math: We continued working with numbers 1 through 5.  We also talked about the number 0.  We completed math activities using our new Ipads.
Social Studies:  Our Weekly Reader focused on friends.
Art:  We made a Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom in which we spelled our names on the top of a coconut tree.

Friendship!

September 9, 2016


Jolly Phonics:  This week we learned the letters i and p.  We pretend we are Inky the Mouse and are itching our whiskers and saying the sound of short i.  To make the sound of the letter p we pretend we are puffing out birthday candles. We know the sounds of the letters: s, a, t, i, and p.  We like to sing songs and do actions for each sound to help us remember them.   Remember to review the sounds we have learned in the letter and sound packet, which shows all the motions and sounds used to make each letter of the alphabet that we will learn this year.  It is for your reference so you can practice with your children as we learn each new letter and the sound of that letter.
Reading:  We read I Like Me.  We did many activities that centered on the story.  We talked about how we are special, different, and unique.  We also read I’m Special, I’m Me!
Sight  Words:  This week we learned the words I and it.  Our rainbow words will be going home next week.  We are going to keep our words in the front sleeve of our green folder so we can practice our words at school and at home.  We worked ona sight word make a match activity.
Math: We worked on counting 4 and 5 in different arrangements and reading and writing the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. We learned The Numeral Song by Dr.Jean.   We completed a number song packet to help us learn how to write our numbers from zero through ten.
Social Studies:  Our Weekly Reader focused on staying healthy at school.
Art: We completed a mirror project to go along with our story I Like Me!

Our First Week!



Focus on Curriculum     

September 2, 2016


Jolly Phonics:  This week we learned the letters a and t.  We pretend ants are crawling up our arm for the letter a.  To make the sound of the letter t we pretend we are watching a tennis match. We know the sounds of the letters: s, a, and t. We like to sing songs and do actions for each sound to help us remember them. 
Reading:  We read The Kissing Hand.  We did many activities that centered on the story. We also read Chester The Brave and Chester Raccoon and the Big Bad Bully!
Popcorn Words:  This week we worked with our first sight Word a. We also worked on  Chester The Brave activities that focused on the word a in which we had to color according to a color code.  
Math: We started our first math unit.  We worked on counting 1, 2, 3, and 4 counting 1, 2,3 and 4 in different arrangements and reading and writing the numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4. 
Art:  We did a Chester the Raccoon project that you can see when you come to Curriculum Night this upcoming Thursday night.
Social Studies:  Our Weekly Reader focused on our classroom community!
