Fun at the Farm!



Fun At The Farm!
                    

Focus on Curriculum                 April 28, 2017 

Jolly Phonics: We have completed all our jolly phonics sounds. Now we know the sounds of the letters and letter combinations: s, a, t, i, p, n, c, k, e, r, h, m, d, g, o, u, l, f, b, j, oa, oa, ie, ee, or, oo, ch, sh, ng, th, ou, qu, ue, oi, er, ar, z, w, v, y, and z.  We like to sing songs and do actions for each sound to help us remember them.  Remember to review the sounds we have learned in the letter and sound packet, which shows all the motions and sounds used to make each letter of the alphabet that we have learned this year. It is for your reference so you can practice with your children each letter and the sound of that letter.
Word Family’s: This week we worked on our short o family ob.  We thought of words as a class that end in ob. The students came up with (knob, cob, job etc.)
Reading:  This week we read Chicks N’ Salsa to continue our animal unit.  We worked on a class research project on horses since we are focusing on animals, in particular, farm animals this week.  We read our very own small books On The Farm With My Friends! 
Writing:  We continue writing in our journals.  We focus on using a capital letter to start sentences, proper punctuation, spacing between our words, and the neatness of our writing.  We also reread our writing to make sure it makes sense.  On each page of our writing journals we have a check list to double check our writing. 
Popcorn Words: This week we learned the sight words was, are, saw and well.  We now have eighty three words and they are: I, a, it, in, see, big, my, like, up, run, on, at, we, me, am, did, not, is, can, but, to, too, ran, into, for, little, and, yes, go, no, so, the you, down, he, she, be, her, our, out, get, help, now, look, good, jump, will, have, must, one, two, three, four, nine, said, this, that, new, soon, went, come, do, all, there, who, what, where, they, say, play, away, eat, please, want, with, came, ate, make, ride, was, are, saw, well. Please practice the sight words with your child at home.  The words are getting difficult.
Math:  We continued working on counting on and addition  Please continue practicing reading and writing numbers 1 through 20. 
Social Studies:  Our Weekly Reader focused on earthworms.
Art:  We completed a horse project that will be on display in our hallway.

Earth Day!

Reading:  This week we read Hey Little Ant and in celebration of Earth Day we read How to Help the Earth by the Lorax.
Writing:  We wrote about the story Hey Little Ant.  In our journals we focus on using a capital letter to start sentences, proper punctuation, spacing between our words, and the neatness of our writing.  We also reread our writing to make sure it makes sense.  On each page of our writing journals we have a check list to double check our writing. 
Sight Words:  This week we learned the sight words came, make, ate and ride. We now have seventy nine words and they are: I, a, it, in, see, big, my, like, up, run, on, at, we, me, am, did, not, is, can, but, to, too, ran, into, for, little, and, yes, go, no, so, the you, down, he, she, be, her, our, out, get, help, now, look, good, jump, will, have, must, one, two, three, four, nine, said, this, that, new, soon, went, come, do, all, there, who, what, where, they, say, play, away, eat, please, want, with, came, ate, make, ride.  We are going to keep our sight words in the front sleeve of our green folder so we can practice our words at school and at home.  Please practice the sight words with your child at home.  The words are getting difficult.
Math:  We worked on grouping tens and ones and then adding them together to find out how manyin all.  Please continue practicing reading and writing numbers 1 through 20.
Social Studies:  Our Weekly Reader focused on recycycling.
Art:  We made an Earth Day project using markers and then spraying it with water and an I love Earth project. Lastly, we completed a Hey Little Ant project.  They came out great!

Spring Weather!

Reading:  This week we read Flower Garden.  We completed a writing activity writing out the steps and illustrating how to plant a flower garden.  We added the poem Sunflower Song to our poetry binder.
Writing:  We continued writing in our writing journals.  In our journals we focus on using a capital letter to start sentences, proper punctuation, spacing between our words, and the neatness of our writing.  We also reread our writing to make sure it makes sense.  We wrote about what we did over spring break.
Sight Words:  This week we learned the sight words they, say, play and away.  We now have seventy one words and they are: I, a, it, in, see, big, my, like, up, run, on, at, we, me, am, did, not, is, can, but, to, too, ran, into, for, little, and, yes, go, no, so, the, you, down, he, she, be, her, our, out, get, help, now, look, good, jump, will, have, must, one, two, three, four, nine, said, this, that, new, soon, went, come, do, all, there, who, what, where, they, say, play, away.  We are going to keep our popcorn bags in the front sleeve of our green folder so we can practice our words at school and at home. Social Studies:  Our Weekly Reader focused on plants.
