Focus on Curriculum

Jolly Phonics: This week the class
learned the letter combination of ng and th.
For ng we pretend that we are strong. Now
we know the sounds of the letters: s, a, t, i, p, n, c, k, e, r, h, m, d, g,
o, u, l, f, b, j, ai, oa, ie, ee, or, z, w, v, y, x, oo, ch, sh, th, and
ng. We like to sing songs and do actions for
each sound to help us remember them.
Remember to review the sounds we have learned in the letter and sound
packet, which shows all the motions and sounds used to make each letter of the
alphabet that we will learn this year. It is for your reference so you can
practice with your children as we learn each new letter and the sound of that
letter.
Reading: This week we read the book Penguins a
National Geographic Kids book. We
talked about things we thought we knew about penguins and confirmed them as we
read the book. We completed penguin
activities in class.
Word Family’s: We
worked on the en word family this week.
First we started with the letters en and then we add different letters
to make new words. For example, for the
en word family we formed the words (hen, pen, ten, men etc.)
Sight Words:
This week we learned the words he, she and be. We are going to keep our sight words in the
front sleeve of our green folder so we can practice our words at school and at
home. Please practice the sight words with your child at
home.
Math: We continued counting to 100 by ones and tens. We also continued working on addition and
subtraction focusing on more and fewer.
Writing:
Each
day we write the students are becoming more confident in their writing skills
and are more eager to share their experiences, thoughts, and ideas.
Science: We planted radish seeds. We are going to observe, record, investigate,
and compare.
Social
Studies: This
week our Weekly Reader focused on Penguins!
Art: In class we made a penguin that will be on display in our
classroom.

We have snack every morning. Please remember to send a healthy snack with
your child each day, such as a fruit or vegetable.
Also, please
remember our room is a peanut/nut free room due to allergies.

to earn money for our school!
