Winter!

Focus on Curriculum

January 6, 2017

Jolly Phonics:  This week I introduced the letter combination ch and sh.  For the combination ch we pretend we are a train by saying ch,ch, ch.  For the combination sh we pretend a baby is sleeping and we are quieting the baby.  Now we know the sounds of the letters: s, a, t, i, p, n, c, k, e, r, h, m, d, g, o, u, l, f, b, j, ai, oa, ie, ee, or, z, w, v, y, x, oo, ch and sh.  We like to sing songs and do actions for each sound to help us remember them.  Remember to review the sounds we have learned in the letter and sound packet, which shows all the motions and sounds used to make each letter of the alphabet that we will learn this year. It is for your reference so you can practice with your children as we learn each new letter and the sound of that letter.
Reading:  This week we read The Relatives Came and winter books, sharing all our thoughts about winter.
Popcorn Words:  This week we learned the sight words the, you, and down.  We are going to keep our word rings in the front sleeve of our green folder so we can practice our words at school and at home.
Handwriting:  We started writing stories.  We are going to add new pages to our stories a few days a week.  When we finish one story we will start another.

Math: We continued counting to 100 by ones and tens.  We started our shapes unit.  We discussed the terms; (sides and corners) Our center activities have a winter theme.
