Happy Holidays!

Focus on Curriculum

December 2, 2016

Jolly Phonics:  This week I introduced the letters w and v.  For the letter w we pretend we are the wind and for the letter v we pretend we are driving a car saying “vvvvv”.  Now we know the sounds of the letters: s, a, t, i, p, n, c, k, e, r, h, m, d, g, o, u, l, f, b, j, ai, oa, ie, ee, or, z, w, and v.  We like to sing songs and do actions for each sound to help us remember them.  Remember to review the sounds we have learned in the letter and sound packet, which shows all the motions and sounds used to make each letter of the alphabet that we will learn this year.  It is for your reference so you can practice with your children as we learn each new letter and the sound of that letter.
Reading:  We read the book Me And My Family Tree.  We learned the meanings of the definitions of family tree, related, and cousin.  We also read a few Holiday books. We added a new winter poem to our poetry binders.
Sight Words:  This week we added the sight words and and little to our sight word rings.  We are going to keep our word rings in the front sleeve of our green folder so we can practice our words at school and at home. We also read our very own Foods I Like book that focused on the popcorn word and.
Handwriting:  We wrote about what we did over the long Thanksgiving weekend!
Math:  We practiced counting to 100 by one’s and tens.  Our center activities have a winter theme.
Social Studies:  We read our Weekly Reader which was about Holiday needs and wants.
Art:  We made a Holiday Tree that is now on display outside our classroom on the bulletin board.
Special Visitor:  The girls and boys have been very excited everyday waiting to see if Buddy the Elf or his sister Becky the Elf has been peeking in on our class.  The elves have been leaving little notes telling them they see them working hard.
