Focus on Curriculum
March 27, 2015
Jolly Phonics: We have completed
all our jolly phonics sounds. Now we know the sounds of the letters and letter
combinations: s, a, t, i, p, n, c, k, e, r, h, m, d, g, o, u, l, f, b,
j, oa, oa, ie, ee, or,oo, ch, sh, ng, th, ou, qu, ue, oi, er, ar, z, w, v, y,
and z. We like to sing songs and do actions for
each sound to help us remember them.
Remember to review the sounds we have learned in the letter and sound
packet, which shows all the motions and sounds used to make each letter of the
alphabet that we have learned this year. It is for your reference so you can
practice with your children each letter and the sound of that letter.
Reading: This week we read Flower Garden and Over in the Meadow by Jane Cabrera. We learned the vocabulary
words, eager, pedestrian, assortment, and passenger. We also read our very own small books that
focused on our popcorn words. We read Set the Table, What Hatches, and At The
Castle.
Word Family’s: We
worked on the ig word family this week.
First we start with the word ending ig and then we add different
letters to the beginning of the word ending ig to make new words. For example, for the ig word family we formed the words (wig, pig, twig, big etc.)
Popcorn Words:
This week we cut out the popcorn words who, what, and where and glued our words in our
popcorn word ring. We are going to keep
our popcorn word rings in the front sleeve of our green folder so we can
practice our words at school and at home. Please practice the popcorn words with your child at home.
Math: We continued counting to 100 by ones and tens. We continued our measurement unit. We focused on the key terms longer, shorter,
same, capacity, weight, and length. We took another one
minute fluency test for addition facts.
Writing:
We
wrote about the Star Student of the Week.
We also wrote in our writing journals.
In our writing journals we continue using our 5 Stars to Writing. The students wrote the sentence “ Look and
see what is in my garden.” After their writing was complete they
illustrated a picture showing their own garden.
Social Studies: We read our
Weekly Reader. The Weekly Reader focused
on spring soil.
Art: The students
really enjoyed making a flower project that shows what flowers need to grow.
