Wacky Week!
Focus on Curriculum
March 6, 2015
Jolly Phonics: We have completed
all our jolly phonics sounds. Now we know the sounds of the letters and letter
combinations: s, a, t, i, p, n, c, k, e, r, h, m, d, g, o, u, l, f, b,
j, oa, oa, ie, ee, or,oo, ch, sh, ng, th, ou, qu, ue, oi, er, ar, z, w, v, y,
and z. We like to sing songs and do actions for
each sound to help us remember them.
Remember to review the sounds we have learned in the letter and sound
packet, which shows all the motions and sounds used to make each letter of the
alphabet that we have learned this year. It is for your reference so you can practice
with your children each letter and the sound of that letter.
Reading: This week we
celebrated Dr. Seuss all week long since his birthday was March 2nd. We read many of his classics along with a few
new books. We read One Fish, Two
Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, Oh the Thinks You Can Think!, The Cat In The Hat,
The Cat In The Hat Comes Back!, Wacky Wednesday, Horton Hears A Who!, Fox in
Socks, and Green Eggs and Ham.
Word Family’s: We
worked on the ed word family this week.
First we start with the word ending ed and then we add different
letters to the beginning of the word ending ed to make new words. For example, for the ed word family we formed
the words (bed, wed, fed, etc.)
Popcorn Words:
This week we cut out the popcorn words this, that, and new
and glued our words in our popcorn word ring.
We are going to keep our popcorn word rings in the front sleeve of our
green folder so we can practice our words at school and at home. Please practice the popcorn words with your child at home.
Math: We continued counting to 100 by ones and tens. We started working on decomposing numbers
11-19. We used colored goldfish crackers
with these activities that went along with one of our Dr. Seuss stories One
Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. Please practice reading and writing numbers 1
through 20.
Writing:
We
wrote about the Dr. Seuss book Wacky Wednesday and illustrated
wacky pictures that we shared with our classmates. We also wrote about Green Eggs and Ham.
Social Studies: We read our
Weekly Reader, which was about Dr. Seuss.
Art: The students
really enjoyed making their own green eggs and ham. We also made a Dr. Seuss project. The boys and girls will be bringing them home
to share with their families.
We had a lot of
fun celebrating Dr. Seuss!
