Focus on Curriculum
September 16, 2016
Jolly Phonics This week we learned the letters n, c, and
k. For the letter n we pretend we are
flying a plane. To make the sound of the
letters c and k we pretend we are playing the castanets. We know the
sounds of the letters: s, a, t, p, n, c, k and I. We like to sing songs and do actions for
each sound to help us remember them.
Remember to review the sounds we have learned in the letter and sound
packet, which shows all the motions and sounds used to make each letter of the
alphabet that we will learn this year.
It is for your reference so you can practice with your children as we
learn each new letter and the sound of that letter.
Reading: We read the book Chicka,
Chicka, Boom, Boom. We did many
activities that centered on the story, including making a rhyming headband with
words that rhyme with tree.
Sight Words:
This week we learned the sight words in and see. We worked on sight word make-a-match
activities. Our word rings are going
home today. Please remember to bring
your ring to school every day in the front sleeve of your green folder.
Math: We continued working with numbers 1 through 5. We also talked about the number 0. We completed math activities using our new
Ipads.
Social Studies: Our
Weekly Reader focused on friends.
Art: We made a Chicka, Chicka,
Boom, Boom in which we spelled our names on the top of a
coconut tree.
