Focus
on Curriculum

Jolly Phonics:
This week we learned the letters a and t. We pretend ants are crawling up our arm for
the letter a. To make the sound of the
letter t we pretend we are watching a tennis match. We know the sounds
of the letters: s, a, and t. We like to sing songs and do actions for
each sound to help us remember them.
Reading: We read Me On The
Map. We did many activities that
centered on the story. We learned what a
map, town, state and country is. We
learned about think, pair, and share.
The students were asked a question about the story, then turned to a
partner (facing each other) and discussed the question that they were
asked. We then came back as a group and
discussed what we talked about in pairs.
We also read Chester The Brave and Pete the Cat Rocking In My
School Shoes!
Popcorn Words:
This week we cut out the popcorn word a and glued it in our
popcorn word ring. Our indexes will be
going home in a few weeks once the children learn a few more of our sight words
to put in our popcorn rings. We are
going to keep our spirals in the front sleeve of our green folder so we can
practice our words at school and at home.
We also worked on Chester The
Brave activities that focused on the word a in which we had to color
according to a color code.
Writing: We
started writing in our new writing journals.
We glued in our journals our first sentence “This is me on a map.” We had
to write our first popcorn word a in to complete the sentence and then had to
create an illustration to show each of us on a map.
Math: We started our first math unit. We worked on counting 1, 2, 3, and 4 counting
1, 2,3 and 4 in different arrangements and reading and writing the numbers 1,
2, 3, and 4.
Art: We did a Pete the Cat project that you
can see when you come to Curriculum Night this upcoming Tuesday night.
Social Studies: Our
Weekly Reader focused on trying our best.
