Focus on Curriculum

Jolly Phonics This week we learned the letters n, c, and
k. For the letter n we pretend we are
flying a plane. To make the sound of the
letters c and k we pretend we are playing the castanets. We know the
sounds of the letters: s, a, t, p, n, c, k and I. We like to sing songs and do actions for
each sound to help us remember them.
Remember to review the sounds we have learned in the letter and sound
packet, which shows all the motions and sounds used to make each letter of the
alphabet that we will learn this year.
It is for your reference so you can practice with your children as we
learn each new letter and the sound of that letter
Reading: We read Friends
at School. We did many activities
that centered on the story. We talked
about things we do at school and the friends that we have made at school. We learned the definitions of enjoy, gooey,
scrumptious, and container.
Popcorn Words:
This week we cut out the popcorn words in and see and put
our words in our popcorn bags. We worked
on sight word make a match activities.
Writing: We
started writing in our new writing journals.
We glued in our journals the sentence “I see _____ in my class.” We had to write the name of one of our
kindergarten friends to complete the sentence and then had to create an
illustration to go with our sentence.
Math: We continued working with numbers 1 through 5. We also talked about the number 0. We completed our Number Song Book.
Social Studies: Our
Weekly Reader focused on Apples.
Art: We made a Zero
The Hero project to go along with discussing the number zero in math.
