Jolly Phonics: We have completed all our jolly phonics
sounds. Now
we know the sounds of the letters and letter combinations: s, a, t, i, p, n,
c, k, e, r, h, m, d, g, o, u, l, f, b, j, oa, oa, ie, ee, or,oo, ch, sh, ng,
th, ou, qu, ue, oi, er, ar, z, w, v, y, and z.
We
like to sing songs and do actions for each sound to help us remember
them. Remember to review the sounds we
have learned in the letter and sound packet, which shows all the motions and
sounds used to make each letter of the alphabet that we have learned this year.
It is for your reference so you can practice with your children each letter and
the sound of that letter.
Word Family’s:
This week we started our word families.
We worked on the at and an word families. First we started with two of our sight words
at and an, and then we add different letters to the beginning of
the words to make new words. For
example, for the at word family we formed the words (cat, bat, hat, mat, rat,
etc.)
Reading: This week we read Henry’s Wrong Turn, a
true story about a humpback whale that found his way into the New York Harbor
in 1988. We also colored in our very own Henry the whale and were able to add
detail such as water, buildings and Coast Guard boats just like in the
story. We also read and wrote in our
very own My 100 Book! We did many
activities that focused on the 100th day of school and Valentine’s
Day.
Popcorn Words:
This week we cut out the popcorn words will, have, and must
and glued them in our spirals. We now have forty nine words and they are: I, a, it, in, see, big, my, like,
up, run, on, at, we, me, am, did, not, is, can, but, to, too, ran, into, for,
little, and, yes, go, no, so, the you, down, he, she, be, her, our, out, get,
help, now, look, good, jump, will, have and must. Our spirals are going home
today. We are going to keep our spirals
in the front sleeve of our green folder so we can practice our words at school
and at home. Please remind your child
to bring their popcorn word spirals to school everyday. Please practice the popcorn words with your child at home.
Math: We continued counting to 100 and counting by tens to 100.
We continued our addition unit focusing on the meaning of addition, putting
together, and the sign for addition (+).
We also worked with counting on.
For example, if we have the number 5 + four snowmen the students would
say 5 then 6, 7, 8, 9 with the answer being 5+4=9. We also read our I Can Count 100 Things book.
