Focus on Curriculum

Jolly Phonics: This week I
introduced the letters v (we pretend we are driving a van) and W (we pretend we
are the wind). Next week we will learn
the letter Z. Now we know the sounds of the
letters: s, a, t, i, p, n, c, k, e, r, h, m, d, g, o, u, l, f, b, j, w,
v, z. We like to sing songs and do actions for
each sound to help us remember them.
Remember to review the sounds we have learned in the letter and sound
packet, which shows all the motions and sounds used to make each letter of the
alphabet that we will learn this year.
It is for your reference so you can practice with your children as we
learn each new letter and the sound of that letter.
Reading: We read the book A
Turkey For Thanksgiving. We did many
activities that centered on the story.
We also read Turkey Trouble.
We read a Thanksgiving poem.
Sight Words: This
week we learned the sight words look and for. Next week our words are at and am. We are going to keep our sight word rings in
the front sleeve of our green folder so we can practice our words at school and
at home.
Handwriting: After reading Turkey Trouble we did a writing activity describing how we would dress up a turkey in order so he/she could hide on Thanksgiving day and not be the Thanksgiving
meal. We then shared our writing with
the class.
Math: We continued unit 3.
We practiced counting, reading and writing numbers 11, 12, 13,14, and 15.
We even completed a math lesson using
our Ipads and a ten-frame app. We
continue counting everyday in class focusing on our end of the trimester goal
of counting to 100. Our math centers
had a fall and Turkey theme.
Social Studies: We talked about bears
and hibernation. We also talked about
what we are thankful for this upcoming Thanksgiving!
Art: We cut out and
colored two turkey projects, one for our Friday project and one for
Grandparents Day. Shh!!! Please don’t tell the grandparents. The kids are excited to complete a Turkey
project with their grandparents.
We are looking forward
to Grandparent’s Day this upcoming Tuesday, November 20th!
I wish everyone and their family and friends a very Happy
and Safe Thanksgiving!
