Focus on Curriculum

Jolly Phonics: This week we
learned the sound of the letters e and h.
For the letter e we pretend we are breaking eggs. To make the sound of the letter h we pretend
we just finished running and are out of breath and we say h,h,h,h,h.. We
know the sounds of the letters: s, a, t, p, n, c, k, i, e, and h. We like to
sing songs and do actions for each sound to help us remember them. Remember to review the sounds we have
learned in the letter and sound packet, which shows all the motions and sounds
used to make each letter of the alphabet that we will learn this year. It is for your reference so you can practice
with your children as we learn each new letter and the sound of that letter.
Reading: We read When
Autumn Comes. We did many activities
that centered on the story. We learned
the definitions of autumn, ripened, harvest, and preparation. We also read Disney Halloween stories
and In 1492 by Jean Marzollo because of Columbus Day on Monday. We also added the poem Falling Leaves to our poetry binders.
Popcorn Words:
This week we learned the words and and you. We are going
to keep our word rings in the front sleeve of our green folder so we can
practice our words at school and at home.
We completed Make-a-Match activities focusing on and and you.
Handwriting: We worked on writing the letter e and h in
both uppercase and lowercase form.
Math: We continued working on numbers 1-5. We also talked about shapes 2-D and 3-D.
(circle square, rectangle, triangle, hexagon, sphere, cone, cylinder, and cube)
Social Studies: We talked
about Christopher Columbus discovering America.
Art: We made a fall tree using our hands as the
tree and different colors of paint to represent the changing fall leaves. We put 50 leaves on our tree.
