Focus on Curriculum

Jolly Phonics: This week the class
learned the letter combinations of ue and oi.
For oi we say, “Ship ahoy”. We
also learned that oy makes the same sound as oi. Now we know the sounds of the
letters: s, a, t, i, p, n, c, k, e, r, h, m, d, g, o, u, l, f, b, j, ai,
oa, ie, ee, or, z, w, v, y, x, oo, ch, sh, th, ng, qu, ou, oi, and oi. We like to sing songs and do actions for
each sound to help us remember them.
Remember to review the sounds we have learned in the letter and sound
packet, which shows all the motions and sounds used to make each letter of the
alphabet that we will learn this year. It is for your reference so you can
practice with your children as we learn each new letter and the sound of that
letter.
Reading: This week we read the book The Snowy Day and
did many activities.
Word Family’s: We
worked on the am word family this week.
First we started with the word am and then we add different
letters to the beginning of the word am to make new words. For example, for the am word family we formed
the words (pam, ham, ram etc.)
Sight Words:
This week we learned the words get, help and now. We are going to keep our sight words in the
front sleeve of our green folder so we can practice our words at school and at
home. Please practice the sight words with your child at
home.
Math: We continued counting to 100 by ones and tens. We also continued working on shapes and started
discussing and working with weight. Our center activities have a winter theme.
Writing:
Each
day we write the students are becoming more confident in their writing skills
and are more eager to share their experiences, thoughts, and ideas.
Social
Studies: This
week in our Weekly Reader we read about snow and where it comes from.
Art: We made a project in which we made ourselves in a snowsuit
just like in the story we focused on this week The Snowy Day.
Remember:
Valentine Party Information- Our Valentine’s Party is on
Friday February 10th. We will
pass out valentine cards on Tuesday February 14th. On the valentine cards please have your child
only sign their name and not who they are sent too. Please do not bring any candy or treats with the
valentine cards. We have 21 students in
our class.

We have snack every
morning. Please remember to send a
healthy snack with your child each day, such as a fruit or vegetable.
Also, please
remember our room is a peanut/nut free room due to allergies.
Bring Library Books on Mondays and Wednesdays
We have gym everyday.
Please remember your gym shoes.
Please check the green folder daily and turn in Box Tops
to earn money for our school!
