Focus on Curriculum

Jolly Phonics: This week I
introduced the sound of the letters ee (vowel combination) and or together. We
reviewed when two vowels go walking the first vowel does the talking; saying
its name, and the second vowel is quite.
Next week we will learn the letter Z. Now
we know the sounds of the letters: s, a, t, i, p, n, c, k, e, r, h, m, d, g,
o, u, l, f, b, j, ai, oa, ie, ee, and or.
We
like to sing songs and do actions for each sound to help us remember
them. Remember to review the sounds we
have learned in the letter and sound packet, which shows all the motions and
sounds used to make each letter of the alphabet that we will learn this year. It is for your reference so you can practice
with your children as we learn each new letter and the sound of that letter.
Reading: We read the book A
Turkey For Thanksgiving. We did many
activities that centered on the story.
We also read Turkey Trouble.
We completed a turkey sequence activity. We added a Thanksgiving poem to
our poetry binders.
Sight Words: This week we added the sight words ran and too and put our words
on our word rings. Next week our words
are into and for. We are
going to keep our sight word rings in the front sleeve of our green folder so
we can practice our words at school and at home.
Handwriting: After reading Turkey Trouble we did a writing activity saying what we would dress
a turkey up like in order to hide on Thanksgiving and not be the Thanksgiving
meal. We then shared our writing with
the class.
Math: We continued working on numbers to 20. We practiced counting, reading and writing
numbers 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20. We
continue counting everyday in class focusing on our end of the trimester goal
of counting to 50. We also completed a Turkey
Teens book. Our math centers had a
fall and Turkey theme.
Social Studies: We talked about the
Pilgrims and completed Pilgrim activities.
Art: We cut out and
colored two turkey projects, one for our Friday project and one for
Grandparents Day. Shh!!! Please don’t tell the grandparents. The kids are excited to complete a Turkey
project with their grandparents.
We are looking forward
to Grandparent’s Day this upcoming Tuesday!
I wish everyone and their family and friends a very Happy
and Safe Thanksgiving!
