Going
Green!
Focus on Curriculum April 15, 2016
Jolly Phonics: We have completed all our jolly phonics
sounds. Now
we know the sounds of the letters and letter combinations: s, a, t, i, p, n,
c, k, e, r, h, m, d, g, o, u, l, f, b, j, oa, oa, ie, ee, or, oo, ch, sh, ng,
th, ou, qu, ue, oi, er, ar, z, w, v, y, and z.
We
like to sing songs and do actions for each sound to help us remember
them. Remember to review the sounds we
have learned in the letter and sound packet, which shows all the motions and
sounds used to make each letter of the alphabet that we have learned this year.
It is for your reference so you can practice with your children each letter and
the sound of that letter.
Word Family’s: This week we worked on our short o family ot.
We thought of words as a class that end in ot. The students came up with (hot,
not, cot, knot, etc.)
Reading: This week we read Seed to Plant and Dandelions. We also learned
the new vocabulary terms: germination, pollination, seedling and soil. We completed many activities that centered
around seeds and plants. We added the
poem Sunflower Song to our poetry
binders. We read our very own The Hearts book that focused on our new
popcorn word with.
Writing: We continued writing
in our writing journals. In our journals
we focus on using a capital letter to start sentences, proper punctuation,
spacing between our words, and the neatness of our writing. We also reread our writing to make sure it
makes sense. On each page of our writing
journals we have a check list to double check our writing.
Popcorn Words:
This week we cut out the popcorn words eat, please, want and with
and put them in our popcorn word bags. We now have seventy five words and they
are: I, a, it, in,
see, big, my, like, up, run, on, at, we, me, am, did, not, is, can, but, to,
too, ran, into, for, little, and, yes, go, no, so, the you, down, he, she, be,
her, our, out, get, help, now, look, good, jump, will, have, must, one, two,
three, four, nine, said, this, that, new, soon, went, come, do, all, there,
who, what, where, they, say, play, away, eat, please, want, with . We keep our popcorn
word bags in the front sleeve of our green folder so we can practice our words
at school and at home. Please practice the popcorn words
with your child at home. The words are
getting difficult.
Math: We continued to practice addition facts that add up to ten, along with
subtracting numbers up to ten. Please continue practicing reading and writing
numbers 1 through 20.
Social Studies: Our
Weekly Reader focused on trees and all the uses of trees. We also did a plant project
and a few Earth Day projects. They will
be on display on our class bulletin board.
