Focus on Curriculum

Jolly Phonics: This week we
learned the letters o and u. For the
letter o we pretend we are turning a light switch on and off. To make the sound of the letter u we pretend
that we are opening an umbrella. We know the sounds of the letters: s,
a, t, p, n, c, k, I e, h, r, m, d, g, o, and u. We like to sing songs and do actions for each sound to help us
remember them. Remember to review the
sounds we have learned in the letter and sound packet, which shows all the
motions and sounds used to make each letter of the alphabet that we will learn
this year. It is for your reference so
you can practice with your children as we learn each new letter and the sound
of that letter.
Reading: We read Apples,
Apples, Apples. We did many
activities that centered on the story.
We learned the definitions of orchard, limb, chart, seed, flesh, skin,
core, stem, and leaf. We also read Curious George stories
and Johnny Appleseed. We did an
apple project in which we colored and labeled the parts on an apple. We read our very own small book Fall
Leaves. In Fall Leaves we
colored and glued in leaves that go along with the story. We also added the poems Falling Leaves
and Apples, Apples to our poetry binders.
Popcorn Words:
This week we cut out the popcorn words on and we and glued
our words in our popcorn word ring. We
are going to keep our popcorn word rings in the front sleeve of our green
folder so we can practice our words at school and at home. We completed make a match activities focusing
on the word we.
Handwriting: We worked in our handwriting books focusing
on the letter A both upper and lowercase letters.
Math: We talked about reading, writing, and counting the numbers
6, 7, 8, 9 and 10. We also focused at
looking for patterns.
Social Studies: Our
Weekly Reader focused on Autumn walks and all the colors we see during Autumn.
Art: We made a fall
tree project where we traced and cut out our hand as the tree and then used our
fingers to put fall colored leaves on our tree. On the bottom of our project is a sentence we created. The sentence reads, “I like my fall tree.”
