Focus on Curriculum
March 21, 2014
Jolly Phonics: We have completed all our jolly phonics
sounds. Now
we know the sounds of the letters and letter combinations: s, a, t, i, p, n,
c, k, e, r, h, m, d, g, o, u, l, f, b, j, oa, oa, ie, ee, or, oo, ch, sh, ng,
th, ou, qu, ue, oi, er, ar, z, w, v, y, and z.
We
like to sing songs and do actions for each sound to help us remember
them. Remember to review the sounds we
have learned in the letter and sound packet, which shows all the motions and
sounds used to make each letter of the alphabet that we have learned this year.
It is for your reference so you can practice with your children each letter and
the sound of that letter.
Word Family’s: This week we reviewed our short i word
families. We worked on the it, in,
ip and ing word families.
We also talked about words ending in ig
Reading: This week we read
St. Patrick’s Day stories and spring stories.
We read Clever Tom And The Leprechaun, In Like A Lion Out Like a
Lamb, Little Quack’s New Friends, and For Everyone To Share. We also read our very own Too Little, Too
Big book.
Writing: We wrote the
sentence I was very lucky_______ and the students finished the sentence with their
own thoughts to tie in with St. Patrick’s Day.
We also played a consonant vowel consonant game where the students had
to search the room for pots of gold that had a picture on them. The students then had an answer sheet where
they had to write the correct word in the corresponding spot. Lastly, the students then read back the
correct responses to the class. For
example (I like my hat.)
